ABRAM AND LOT SEPARATE – Genesis 13:1-18
I. Vss. 1-4: Abram Returns From Egypt
II. Vss. 5-7: Contention Arises:
John 17:20-23: “I do not ask for these only, but also for those who will believe in me through their word, that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me. The glory that you have given me I have given to them, that they may be one even as we are one, I in them and you in me, that they may become perfectly one, so that the world may know that you sent me and loved them even as you loved me.
Donald Barnhouse said, “Many people will never listen to what any believer says because of what some believers are.”
III. Vss. 8-9: Abram’s Generous Offer to Lot:
Philippians 2:4: Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others.
IV. Vss. 10-13: Lot Makes His Choice:
Covetousness: An eager, excessive, or insatiable desire for wealth, material possessions, or something that belongs to another person; an insatiable appetite for more things.
1 Timothy 6:10 says; For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs.
Robert South, from the 1600’s said; “Covetousness is both the beginning and the end of the devil’s alphabet; the first vice to corrupt nature that moves, and the last which dies.”
Jeremiah 17:9: The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it?
V. Vss. 14-18: God confirms His promise to Abram:
2 Peter 1:3-4: His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence, by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire.
Mamre means, “vision”. Hebron means “communion; fellowship”.
